WHAT IS RMP?
Reiss Motivation Profile is a concrete, detailed image of a persons individual basic desires, motives and values. The name comes from Steven Reiss, professor of psychology, whose team asked thousands of people in 1995-1998 what motivates them and what makes them happy. The result is the world’s first scientically proven approach to human motivation.
WHY THESE 16 BASIC DESIRES?
The 16 basic desires are the result of a series of extensive empirical studies. These 16 basic desires are psychologially relevant and explain most human behaviour. For example: Having superior titles makes me happy = desire for status. I love good food = desire for eating. I can’t be happy without exercise = desire for physical activity. Notice that these desires are common to all cultures and all people.
WHAT DOES THE MOTIVATION PROFILE CONSIST OF?
The profile comes with an online questionnaire. Once the questionnaire is completed, you will receive an invitation to a discussion with your RMP Master. The discussion will take about 60 to 90 minutes, and it will cover all your desires in detail. You will also receive a report that you can read through to get familiar with your desires.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TYPICAL PERSONALITY TEST AND AN RMP PROFILE?
Many tests group people into generalised categories. RMP does no such thing. You get a completely individual profile, much like your fingerprint. RMP is also the only empirically developed and scientifically valid tool to measure individual motivation.
HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE RECEIVED THEIR PROFILE SO FAR?
More than 105 000 people worldwide have received their profile.
HOW DOES CULTURE INFLUENCE THE RMP RESULTS?
The basic desires occur automatically, but how we go about satisfying them is determined by upbringing, culture and experiences. For example, parents instinctively love their children, but how they experess that love and educate their children depends on culture and learned habits. The results so far show that all the tested life motives appear equally in different countries.
HOW DOES GENDER INFLUENCE THE RMP RESULTS?
Based on the RMP results, men have a somewhat higher desire from vengeance, romance and physical activity.
All tests are adjusted to an overall Norm. And the Norm also adjust for age and gender.
HOW OLD SHOULD A PERSON BE TO DO THE RMP?
The test has been developed for people above 12 years. There is also a version for young adults (school version, 12-25 years) with simplified language and excluding the motives of eating, beauty and saving.
HOW SOON SHOULD I DO THE REISS MOTIVATION PROFILE AGAIN?
Since the basic desires are strongly rooted in our genes, they are a stable part of our personality. If you have been able to answer the questions honestly and openly, there is no need to redo the profile. You can use your once established profile and your improved understanding of what really motivates you and what is most important for you in different situations of your life.
